iPhone 5/5S comes with a 4 inch display capable of a 1136 x 640 pixel resolution (326 ppi). Most Android screens will cap out at 800 pixels wide. With that said if you have an image larger than 750 pixels, you are almost guaranteed that it will not look right on the majority of mobile phones today. Since most people do not consider this or have control over this when uploading images we automatically convert them all to 750 x 750 regardless of the size you submit.
If you submit a large enough image it will look good, if you submit a smaller image we will put a white background around it. If you want a perfect image that crop it to be the size of 750 x 750.
If you are looking to add extra large size image into your product descriptions, you can put images into the additional description section of the product and make them as big as your template (usually 1000 pixels wide). You can do so with our new drag and drop webpage builder and easily style it like you want.
If you want to upload bigger images into Amazon you can provide an external URL into your Amazon feed for the images, and we will pick up the larger images for the feed versus the ones saved in your backoffice.
