When a new store is created in Shopping Cart Elite the following process happens:
- Database Records is Created
- FTP Path is Created
- Web Service Record is Created
- License files are created
- Email Accounts are created
- DNS records get created
- TEA database records get created
Then all the above get interlinked with each other so it works. In addition if your website design is complete with custom CSS classes, images and pathes, and your data has additional description with custom pages and images, this creates a whole new level of complexity.
When a client requests to change a domain name, everything above needs to be modified and touched. It seems like changing a domain name is as simple as changing a DNS name server but this is not the case.
We do have scripts that modifies the database, but sometimes it can fail and we have to manually go in and fix it. We won't know what is broken until the client complains. The Design usually breaks and so do the links that were hardcoded.
Unless you are permanently changing your domain and we need to do this once, it can be done for a fee. However if you simply want to do this so you can have a live website on a test URL, and later change it back. We advise you to launch it on our demo URL (domain.securepcissl.com) and then switch it to a real domain.
You can also take your temporary real URL such as www.domain.com and put it as a CNAME record to your demo url domain.securepcissl.com. When you do that the website will be accessible from your custom domain name but will actually be working internally under the demo url.
